Introducing Jala

"NeighborWorks® Toledo Region bridged the gap when it comes to knowledge that you have and knowledge that you need to take yourself to the next step." 

Jala Robinson began working with her NeighborWorks® Toledo Region Housing Counselor, Meg Leahey, in October of 2024. Jala rents her home through LadderUp Housing and is working with Meg to take ownership of her finances to purchase her home. 

"It has been a struggle to find resources that are there with you every step of the way." Robinson said. "You also have to put the work in. Teamwork makes the dream work!" 

As a recent graduate of The University of Toledo’s Master's in Information Technology program, Jala is looking for her next big challenge. Regular check-ins with Meg have offered support and guidance as she builds her credit and navigates the homebuying process. Meg has enjoyed watching Jala’s journey: 

“She is living in a LadderUp home, loves it, and will be purchasing it. She is doing everything she needs to reach this goal. When Jala is given a task, she works hard to complete it. She is such a delight to work with—always positive and ready to take care of business.” Meg said. 

Throughout the past seven months, Jala has successfully reduced her debt by thousands of dollars, which largely consisted of student loans, and increased her credit score by 22 points. Her progress is steady, and Meg reports that she is well on her way to achieving homeownership status.
